Johannes Nicholas2 Solt (son of HENRICH1 SOLT), born 10 August 1722(14) in Germany; died 08 January 1803(14) in Towamensing, Northampton (now Franklin, Carbon), Pennsylvania; married to Maria Catharina Balliet (daughter of Stephan Balliet and Maria Catherina Schweitzer) who was born 07 June 1732(14) and christened 10 June 1732 in Schallbach (Rauweiler), Duchy of Nassau (now in Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France), and died 13 October 1815 aged 83 years, 04 months, 06 days(14) in Towamensing.
He moved to Towamensing (now
Franklin) about 1762-63; he is on the 1764 Towamensing Tax List, but not the
1761 list. He built a house and a grist mill on Sawmill Creek [now called
Sawmill Run], just above Pohopoco Creek, about 1773.
He also owned a sawmill. [NOTE: Either he or his brother Daniel,
or probably both, must have built their sawmills shortly after moving there,
since they were the first two settlers there, and it wasn’t named Gristmill
Creek.
Also, there would have been an immediate
market for floating timber downstream to the established settlements, but there
would have been no market (or supplies) for grinding grain until later. So it
seems likely that that was their reason for moving there in the first place.
However, it’s also likely that they didn’t make a permanent settlement there
with their families until later.]
[From the Brenckman History of Carbon County(G), page 198: “It appears that the first permanent settlement in Franklin township was made by the Solt family, and their descendants are still to be found in the district. Before the close of the Revolution, John, David and Daniel Solt lived here.” Also, on page 352: “In 1785, [Colonel Jacob] Weiss brought his family…to the new home [now Weissport]. At the time of his coming, the Arners, Solts and Hoeths were already settled along the Poho Poco creek, several miles to the eastward…”.]

They are buried at St. John’s (Towamensing) Church at Palmerton, Carbon, Pennsylvania (Row 4, stones 2 and 3). His estate (Northampton Will File #2172): Letters of Administration to [sons] John and Paul Solt filed in 1803.
